Huckleberry/apple pie is my favorite pie in the whole world. Here's a picture picture of what is left of two pies that I made last night. With two slices cut for Gabby Haze and Olmanriver. They usually eat off the same plate, it's like they're joint at the hip or sompthin'.
Then... after the giant sucking sound!
My great great grandmother used to be the best pie maker in Branscomb, only she used bear fat for her crusts. I use butter.
ReplyDeleteDid 101 cafe have good pies?
ReplyDeleteErnie's huckleberry/apple pie is incroyable, merveilleuse, and delicieux! It's too bad Gabby never came back from Burning Man to get his slice because he missed out. Sorry Gabby, I ate your slice. Great pie Ernie, merci beaucoup (thanks a bucket)! Yum.
ReplyDeleteThe 101 Cafe had excellent pies. Back in the 50's if you didn't have good pies you didn't have a restaurant. PERIOD.
ReplyDeletePies were something that was ruined by the health departments. Pies now have to be refrigerated. Any pie lover will tell you that pies are like wine. Berry and fruit pies should be served at room temperature. Cream pies should be served at 50 degrees. That would require that all pies should be sold every day, and made fresh everyday. That wasn't a problem back in the '50s. Pies sold like hotcakes...
I don't know, but I heard that Gabby hooked up with a chick at Burning Man. I'm afraid that maybe they are still looking for a landing spot.
So, is that a rock next to the keyboard or a really old potato?
ReplyDeleteeWe have huckleberry bushes here on our property. I have to say that they are one of my favorite berries.
