Dedicated to remembering how it was “back then”, and Tales about the Eel River Valley, and the wisdom of the people that live there. With a big emphasis on; “Language has never been about correctness, it has always been about communicating”. We live in one small bubble of place and time that peace is thought of as ideal, we should revel in it! We cant judge what happened in history by who we are now.
thanks!happy holiday to every one here!!!
ReplyDelete`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
ReplyDeleteDid gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
i have enough trouble, with day to day english!!!! please give us ridgerunners a break!
ReplyDeleteRidgerunners, eh? That's what you folks call yourselves? Out in the Klamath-Trinity mountains area we referred to people on the coast as "Mossbacks or Fogcrawlers".
ReplyDeleteRoss, my father was a backcountry patrolman for the U.S. Forest Service for 38 years. That, and our family has a been in the Humboldt area since 1882. We first settled in the Iuqua Buttes/Showers Pass area first and then near Blocksburg before migrating to the Trinity River region.
Anyway, have you ever traveled from one end of our area to another without hitting a major road? For instance, travel from Salyer in Trinity County to Covelo without hitting a state highway? Or, if you do have to use, say Highway 36, you only travel a short distance on it. He used to make quite a game of it. Of course, he had keys to all of the gates for the Forest Service, PG&E and Private Ranches. That helps quite a bit.
i went to high school in weaverville,if that helps any?
