Willie Nelson will be in Garberville.

note: I had the date wrong earlier....

People production is bringing Willie Nelson to Garberville on Sunday August 31st. I'll put a link at the bottom. First play some music. Turn you volume way up high and your bass way down low, and click on the following blue links...

Down in the bottom left corner of the video that is playing after you click on the link, there is a little box inside a box about a half-inch square. Click that box and the video will go full screen. To get back out just click the "X" on the bottom right, or click escape.

Have fun!

Play a little Reggae Willie.

Willie and Bobbie Dylan

And, one for my old cousin Jim who never met a county girl he didn't fall in love with. Willie Nelson and Shania Twain, Blue eyes crying in the rain

And, one for me Willie and Norah Jones

One for everybody Ray Charles and Willie Nelson

David Frizzell, wino

It's really nice to have some good non-violent music in Garberville for a change. If you want to go to the concert click here for more info. People Production

  1. I remember the day we were at the Bar and Uncle Everett took Hello Walls out of the juke box. That is about the only song the patrons were playing and I guess your dad had heard it enough. Those were the days.

  2. Hi Jim, did you play your song?

The only song that I ever went nuts over and destroyed is Billy Ray Cyrus' Achey Breaky Heart. After hearing it two-thousand times, and I didn't like it it the first place, I flipped out.
They say music soothes the savage beast...bullcrap!

  3. Nothin' like the great Willy playin' a small town venue. I saw him once in a 3000 seat auditorium in Carlsbad New Mexico, middle of friggin' no where. Played for three hours straight to a not quite full house (explain that one?) and come out for a few autographs afterwards. Great show. Don't miss the opportunity.

  4. My wife listened to the songs that I posted and she has decided that I have to take her.

  5. I've only been to one consert in my life and that was at the high school in Ketchikan. Emmylou Harris was playing accustic guitar and it was great. One of my favorite artists.

  6. Spelling is not as important as saying something interesting. Some of the most interesting people that I've ever met were people that didn't even know how to write. I know stuff that nobody else knows, because I took the time to listen to people and not criticize their language.

I'm not saying this to criticize anyone who is a good speller, but to say, “if you are not the worlds best speller it's okay, you may very well have the worlds best stories“, and I don't want to miss them because you make a few "Typo's. Suzy Blah Blah would be a good example, she might be difficult to read sometimes but she always has something interesting to say… In fact she is Kinda” one of my heroes.

Everyone has their best talents, I don’t want to be known as the worlds best speller, how about you? Live a little, throw careful spelling to the wind. Make up your own shorthand if you want to. Language has always been dynamic and it changes with the times. Otherwise we would all sound like Shakespeare, and we all know how hard he was to understand.

  7. Oh, I was raised on Shakespeare - he ain't so bad, Ernie!

Greg and I are both big Willie fans! We will be going!

  10. "Oh Suzi, U R the Shakespeare of SoHum! LOL!!!'

That is kinda' fitting, when you think about it.

I left out Willie's scientific dissertation on the benefits of weed. Willie talking while stoned

  11. Some people don't find Shakespeare hard to understand . . .

I guess it's all the bad spellers that can't read the four-letter word painted on those big, red signs that are just living a little and make up their own "short hand" that we all need to worry about. We certainly live in dynamic and changing times!

  12. um... Did I run a stop sign somewhere???

  13. I think Joe is talking about those signs that say "WHOA".

  14. Love Willie Nelson. Can't stand Peoples Productions. What a dillemma (sic)!

  15. I'm going. I fell in love with Willie's voice when I was a homesick college girl. He sounded like Humboldt to me then and still does now.

I'm glad to see People's Production diversifying. I think it is great for the whole community.

Whether or not, you like Carol and the others in People's Productions, they helped build a great event here in Humboldt. Hopefully, they'll bring in more money with other kinds of music.

I think moving on might heal some of the divisions in our community.

  16. Psst, you missed out on my favorite Willie music---something from the Wandering Willbury's preferably with Tom Petty, too.

Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Tom Petty altogether---they don't make much better music than that.

  17. Dang Ernie, Willie Nelson?! My all time favorite singer!!! Got to see him before he goes. He's got one foot on a banana peel and the other in the bucket. Hoping to take my Dad!!
I heard about this concert the other day and got alot of smack about wanting to go. The people who told me about it is trying to get everyone to boycott it, because People pruductions is putting it on. Quite frankley I don't care who is doing what... I don't live there and Willie is my all time favorite singer.
Anyways love you guys.... 6th generation Eel River.

  18. Hang in there Sis, and don't take sides, it's their fight, don't get sucked into it, it's not healthy.

    See you there!

  19. Kym,

I thought long and hard about the division between the Mateel and People Production before I posted this. I have long advocated the “third side”, which would be the “Community” that these two are having their disagreement in. I had hoped that they would kiss and make up for the good of all, but they don’t seem to be able to do that. Apparently disappointment runs deep between the two groups.

So, I’ve decided that for the good of the Community that I would simply support “both sides” until they either work it out, or ruin each other. (they are very successfully doing that)

As you may know the Rotary Club that I belong to decided to have a fund raiser for the school and the hospital. We had it at the Mateel, in part to support the Community Center. It was very successful.

They don’t want People Productions to have events there, or People won’t have events there (I’m not sure which) so they take everything to northern Humboldt. That does not help Garberville at all. The Reggae bands that People promote are much more peaceful than we have now. The Oakland Gansta” bands that have been coming to the Mateel have caused near riots, and I can’t in clear conscience promote that in this town. We need to wake up to that. By my trying to stay out of things has only caused things to go to hell. They are all desperate, and I believe that they are doing things that they wouldn’t normally do out of desperation.

I think Having Willie in town is a move in a positive direction and I support it. I will support all positive moves. For the good of the community, we need to get the hate behind us. I’ll do my part!!

  20. Holy Cow Ernie, 6th generation Eel River. No way you can beat that. LOL

    Jim

  21. Well there are some seventh generations around here. But it doesn't make any difference what you accomplish in life, your kids will outdo you anyway.

It sounds like Sis wants to talk you into seeing Willie. Are you going to go?

I don't know, but I heard that he will be doing a lot of his Reggae stuff. He'll have a little C&W or it won't be Willie.

But, as you might have guessed he's more Hippy than Cowboy. It will be hard to pick him out of the crowd in Garberville, we are the "Old Hippy Capitol of the World".

  22. "Pancho and Lefty"

Livin on the road my friend, is gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath as hard as kerosene
You weren't your momma's only boy, but her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye
    And sank into your dreams
Pancho was a bandit boy, his horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel
Pancho met his match you know on the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dyin words, ah but that's the way it goes

All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away, out of kindness I suppose

Lefty he can't sing the blues all night long like he used to
The dust that Pancho bit down south ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low, Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go, there ain't nobody knows

All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away out of kindness I suppose

The boys tell how old Pancho fell, and Lefty's livin in cheap hotels
    The desert's quiet, Cleveland's cold
And so the story ends we're told
Pancho needs your prayers it's true, but save a few for Lefty too
He only did what he had to do, and now he's growing old

All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away out of kindness I suppose

A few gray Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away out of kindness I suppose

  23. I don't think I will make it to see Willie. It might be a little different if it was all C/W music but Sundays are not good for me as work comes early on Mondays.
I do plan on taking a day off here and there though for important things like the Old Timers ball game and the Reno Air Races.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wait! You can't take off for Old Timer's, Jim. I'm taking off for Old Timer's! You can have the air races. And Redding. A twofer!

I love Willie Nelson but this isn't one of those concerts to raise money to help him pay his taxes, is it? LOL! Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anybody know what Dewayne Blackwell's up to lately?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well Robin, I guess you and I will have to go to the Old Timers together then.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Robin, people in Garberville don't know about the Blackwell Brothers. They were a real popular band in Laytonville back in the honky-tonk and logging days. Some of the older people probably remember one of DeWayne Blackwell’s songs that David Frizzell made famous.

It reminds me so much of the Briceland bar, and back when we had people with paycheck type jobs around here.

To anybody that’s ever been around a honky-tonk bar, this song brings back a lot of memories. To anyone else, you can listen anyway. Turn up your speakers and click the following blue line.

Um… I can’t get the blue line to work in the comment box this morning so you can find the link in the bottom of the post on Willie.

  28. The Reno Air Races! I love it!

I still have to post about our trip to Nevada and Utah during spring break. I take 50 across those two states every year or two, but David had never been out that way. We had a fantastic time.

He really wants to go see Willie, so I suppose I'm just gonna hafta put it on the calendar.

  29. Hi Cristina, I was just over at your blog trying to comment on your collection of kitties puppies and men that you put your blog, but it won't take my comments for some reason, so I'll just put my comment hear.

"So, what do you do for an alarm clock throw the puppies on the bed with the cats?"

  30. Don't forget "Friends in Low Places"...another for Garth Brooks... anybody ever been to The Oasis on Hwy. 20 through Lake Co.? That's the bar Dewayne refers to in that song.
Also, "Mr. Blue", of course, & his brother wrote "Little Red Riding Hood" (you sure are lookin' good!) for Sam the Sham.
    There are many others.
Sorry the folks in G-ville aren't familiar with Dewayne.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nope, nobody up here even knows who the Blackwell Brothers were.

Most people know about the Oasis. Back in the fifties and sixties that was the quintessential honky-tonk bar.

I guess we'll just have to be content that a lot of very, very great people have come through Laytonville.
