I’m sure you kno...Thank-you for the Thank-you Suzy. I’m sure you know, but for the benefit of others, the line that you highlighted about the “noted weed” has an interesting interpretation.

“Weed” in Shakespeare’s day was your “manner of dress“, as in; “She was dressed in widows weed”, actually means that she was dressed up in black, and had her face covered suitable for mourning.

The line “And keep invention in a noted weed,”was about his talent as a writer. “Invention” is used as a reference to his ability to create writing. So, the line roughly interpreted by me means; “To keep my writing talent dressed in the finest verbage”.

He meant that what he was saying, he wanted to say well. That is a talent that a lot of us aspire to achieve, but alas, none of us will ever do as well as Shakespeare.Ernie Branscombhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06391160783604462511noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924013241079711992.post-82046499611128164362008-09-30T18:04:00.000-07:002008-09-30T18:04:00.000-07:00Gosh it looks really really prettty in fancyfont a...Gosh it looks really really prettty in fancyfont and even a oaken frame wow!
I am sooooooooooooo honered

thank yuo Ernie --HUGE HUG,
S

SONNET 76
Why is my verse so barren of new pride,
So far from variation or quick change?
Why with the time do I not glance aside
To new-found methods and to compounds strange?
Why write I still all one, ever the same,
And keep invention in a noted weed,
That every word doth almost tell my name,
Showing their birth and where they did proceed?
O, know, sweet love, I always write of you,
And you and love are still my argument;
So all my best is dressing old words new,
Spending again what is already spent:
For as the sun is daily new and old,
So is my love still telling what is told.
Wm ShakespeareAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-924013241079711992.post-35098529828309182402008-09-30T16:21:00.000-07:002008-09-30T16:21:00.000-07:00I knew what you meant Ernie, no water lines in rat...I knew what you meant Ernie, no water lines in rat country.
