The Humbodt County Fair

My favorite part of the fair is the ladies that are proud of their jams and jellies and pies, and peanut butter tuna casseroles.

Also, the kids with their lips quivering, because they are just about to sell their animal that they have raised from a baby, and the animal that has become their very best friend in the whole world, who has patiently listened to all their problems.

And, the dads that are proud of their kids, because the have raised them to be tough and face the reality of the world that we live in, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and go forward with their chins up.

I just love people… even the ones that sometimes make me mad. What better place than the Fair to soak in the real world.

"peanut butter tuna casseroles."

Whew....I thought for sure I would have competition for my special Butterscotch/Marshmallow/Rainbow Pasta/Cocktail Wiener casserole.

Blue Ribbon, come to me, baby!

Best exhibit at the fair? The grave markers of the world record winning cows behind the Arts building near the Kiwanis hamburger near the plant exhibit. Awesome display.

I prefer tuna fish and jelly sandwiches myself. Oh yeah, another favorite, peanut butter and onion sandwiches.

Ah, Yes... You can never tell where you might find sucker bait laying around. It's best to just leave it laying there on the bottom.

My all time favorite sandwich is Virginia Smoked Ham and peanut butter and apple jelly on raisin bread. Or, as Eel River Ernie calls it “dried grape bread”.

You laugh until you try it. No sane person that has ever tried the “Ernie Special Samich” has been able to deny that it’s the best sandwich ever! (That’s because the peanut butter sticks your tongue to the roof of your mouth.)
