1964 flood revisited.

46 years ago we were in the midst of a great flood, the likes of which has never been seen before or seen since.
I did a post about it before, here is a link for you if you want to take a trip down memory lane, or if you are new to the north coast, some information to bring you up to speed.

I believe that KMUD news is going to do a broadcast about the flood tonight at 6:00 pm. Terry from KMUD News interviewed Sid Green and I, I suspect the hardest part of her interview with us was getting us to shut up!

Here is a link to KMUD.ORG after clicking on the link move you cursor over -"Listen" live/archive-. A drop down menu will appear. then just click on which way that you can receive that live streaming broadcast. If you miss it, you can listen on the "Archives" tomorrow.

The news program was interesting. several other people spoke about the flood. Most all felt that they would have gotten along okay back then by living off the land.

merry xmas ernie and everyone and have a great new year. glad i rode that train on the eel in 62 or so all the way from willets to eureka. this was back when i was surfing and we used to see all this wood show up on the beach and wonder where it came from. sometimes there would be huge amounts of wood on the beaches all the way down the coast to san francisco. i think we were still making fires at the beach in san francisco back in 69 that floated out of the eel back in 64. i got my first wet suit in 67 so that humbolt flood wood was a godsend.
after four or five times in the water, you skin would turn blue like those avatar people. i remember those hippe girls used to
warm themselves up at the fire. they had hair everywhere, under their arms, down their legs, and all the usual places. you don't see hair like that anymore. that's about the only way i can tell its not the sixties anymore. no more hairy women.

Hairy woman, you mean like big foot?

Nope, like “Humboldt Honeys”. Hairy legs, hairy pits, Vibram soled hiking boots, organic granola bar, organic juice, spring water bottle. Her own sleeping bag, and a willing smile

There was a flood in 1964? Hmmm, I must have missed it. Oh, that was the reason we slept in two cars for three days and all of the roads washed into the river. I wondered why entire log decks and propane tanks were crashing down the river taking bridges out. And, house trailers. So, that's why loggers with Cats saved the day. Oh, that '64 flood.

I can't remember if it was the '64 flood or the '55 flood?? But Roger Adrian "trucked" a lotta food to people stranded down river on the "Trinity"
