Forget it

I just did a post here about the Mormons and their influence of early American history. I'm sorry but I withdrew it. I'm tired of the personal attacks on myself and my family. I invite anyone to make any pertainent comments about the Mormans, and early history, here if they like. It is an incredibly interesting chapter in our lands history.

I have come to understand why history is so little understood, there is still a shitload of hate out there.

Sorry Cappy
I think that we would have all got something out of it, but I've tried to do the post, since almost the beginning, when I did a post about "The Ghost Dance". I was stuck by all of the Mormon influence on the Indian people, good and bad, and the emigrants. I have discovered that some people think that when I talk about the early west that I’m somehow trying to justify what happened to the Indian people. I am sincerely not trying to say “It was okay”, it wasn’t. But, it happened, for a lot of reasons. I’m just not interested in the personal criticism that comes my way, I don’t have the time to deal with it, and I don’t think some people really care.

There are a lot of people out there that can talk about history in a gentle and informative way, I hope that they will do that here. I don’t want to see people take the Indian side or the settler side. I just want to have people know the history.

I hope you don't think I'm saying anything like what that Anonymous guy just said. Disagreements aside, I like your blog, and I like that you're being thoughtful about your history. I hope you'll reconsider.

I appreciate your comment. As you and I know, we were having a discussion. Disagreeing makes both of us think. I know your comments made me realize that I worded what I was trying to say way too clumsily, and maybe I should have been more careful.

Anon shows up now and again and makes comments that are sometimes a little too personal and sometimes very unfair. I deleted my post on the Mormons because I reread it, and I’m sure that more than a few people would have found my comments a little too provocative. I’m not religious so it seems unfair of me to be discussing history based in part on religion. Some of the things that I see in religion equates with the world still being flat. I know that offends the religious.

I still feel that there must be some way of telling the story without offending people. Maybe I will just use cut and paste quotes. I’m getting more familiar with the story, so It will be much easier to do.

I probably won’t give it up completely just because of the unfair comments of a person that seems to know things about me that I don’t even know myself.

My Indian friends and relatives have open discussions about early history, and we don’t have any problems, but then, we know each other, and have the chance to explain if we make a mistake.

I don’t have any problem slamming someone if they deserve it, but I don’t know who “Anonymous” is. The person may feel they have reasons for being personal. I don’t know, but I'm not going to let anon take away from the general good feelings that we all have on this blog.

I say let anon dig his/her own hole Ernie. I was disappointed today when I came over to your blog, I was looking forward to reading what you had posted. You write about history and anon shows that the hate is not just in the past but doing well today.
I get up in arms in my minds eye with the left liberals because if I don't like guns I won't have any. If a liberal doesn't want a gun they don't want anybody to have one.
Don't let the bastards wear you down Ern.
I ain't sayin' anon is a liberal but I've heard that same kind of quack before. I also ain't sayin' liberals are bad it's just I don't agree with em'.

Now Ernie, I don't always agree with you, but I'm always appreciative of your efforts. Keep it coming, you do a great service to us history junkies.

Ernie,

I was raised a Mormon. Almost every Mormon I've ever known has been "good people"--people that I could depend on. Nonetheless, I'm sure that out of fear and anger many have committed terrible acts--as have Protestants, Native Americans, Catholics, Hindus, etc.

I read your piece early before any comments were added so I don't know what that Anon was alleging but I hope you remember that most of us enjoy your pieces even if we don't always agree with every aspect.

Yay, I know how hard you have been working on the Mormon post Ernie. Glad you rose above that Anon and gave us your article after you put all that time into the research.

"Illegitimi Anon carborundum"

Actually that is bad Latin grammar, the phrase should read: "Noli nothis permittere te terere."

Ernie... These folks (Anonymous) are called "Trolls". Sadly, they are everywhere. We really appreciate your blog and the work it takes to develop your posts.
