More recently found local artifacts

These arrowheads were found on the main Eel River between Spyrock and Alderpoint. They sure had some beautiful chert out there.

Pretty elegant stuff. I recognize some bird hunting points.

Oh that blue one! Is it considered blue chert?

I'm not sure what you would call the rock that it was made from, but the area that those arrowheads are found in is a well know copper ore site. Many shades of blue and greeen to almost black rock are found there.

Much as the local riprap comes in shades of green on the South Fork of the Eel, it is common to see shades of blue on the upper middle and North forks of the Eel. The ride from Longvale to Covelo has outrageously blue boulders slightly less dark than the blue arrowhead shone. I would assume that there are varieties of the river boulder material that have enough quartz to chip and shape.

Ernie.. I have just transcribed Goddard's notes of Briceland Charlie's Abalone Woman story in which Eagle is spurned and throws away his bride price of colored flint on the ridge above Salmon Creek. That is why there are so many colors of "flint" around Salmon Creek. I'll send it to you when I have put it in readable form.
