Ernie I think you are a dumb son of a bitch for supporting Estelle Fennel.

Personal attacks are much more painful and meaningful when signed.

We are very lucky to have three very qualified and dedicated people running for Humboldt County Supervisor. The reason that I support Estelle is because of her outstanding intelligence, her energy, her honesty, her ability to carry on a dialog without name calling, or mud slinging, and even more so, she has become a trusted friend.

She has become acquainted with all of our representatives in Sacramento. She has their ear, and they are likely to consider her recommendations seriously, because she is straightforward and honest. As you know most of the County funding comes through Sacramento, so some of the focus has changed to from distributing the funding, to making sure that it keeps coming in.

If you live in the second district you will also be better off.

I like to try to make the world better by adding betterment. If you simply condemned everything that is wrong with the world it would never get better. Try to understand.

Ernie, I wish I could put into words what I think here. I will say once again you are diplomatic. Pesonally I would like to choke the S*#@ out of this person (4:51). I too, wonder where peoples mind are when it comes to picking politicians. However the last I heard people have a choice and I respect that choice.
If I wrote something like that I would sign my real name to it. Me and some of my old buddies have a word for people like this, COWARD.

Oregon, It wouldn't be the first time you had my back. Thanks.

Fortunately there are FEW people that lob insults from behind their curtains of anonymousness. It used to bother me, because their insults were so frequent that I thought at first that it was many people, but after much study of the things that were said, I was able to narrow it down to probably just one person.

Years ago, I had a problem with crank calls being left on my answering machine. Someone would call, and in a very young voice, they would leave some of the most disgusting vile filth that you ever heard, (Kinda’ like a day in the woods) then I would hear two or three little kids laughing maniacally in the background. One evening I was working late and I heard the kids leaving A message on the answering machine and I picked up the phone and said: “Does your mamma know that you talk like that?”. All I heard was a click and they never called back again. I have a little laugh every time that I think about that.

As you probably remember, dad said that “you should never argue with a fool, the people listening might not be able to tell which one is the fool”.

It was darn good advice, and to argue endlessly with “Anonymous” only looses the people that you respect and really want to have an intelligent dialog with. The good thing about having my own blog is, I won’t allow the hollow prattle to continue, and anger the tone of this blog. There are enough angry blogs out there, and I would like to see this one remain cordial, even if it isn’t always an intelligent discussion. So, I expect people to leave some content in their comments besides things like; “Momma he’s touching me again”.

This suggested topic is relevant and timely, but probably too hot to handle.

In Humboldt County and elsewhere, some people have taken to accusing other people of being racists even though they are nothing of the sort.

It's like the 1950s, when merely calling a person a Communist in a public place could cause the accused to lose his job and become a social outcast.

I myself have been called "racist!" Once for speaking against illegal immigration, and once for agreeing with Bill Cosby's ideas on the benefits of Standard English for all young people including African-Americans.

Ernie, it seems pretty obvious Estelle's campaign is making headway. The mud-slinging increases when some people feel threatened.

Ernie is one of the most decent people you'll ever meet, but he was naive to open a thread about hunting, fishing, economics and history.

These subjects bring out the worst in people.

When you get negative comments, Ernie - you just consider the source. :)

Good point anonymous, and thank-you for posting. My cousin "Oregon" thinks that all anons are the same. So, once again, you prove that they are not.

Having been on the wrong end of a few racial arguments myself, I fully understand what you mean. And I don't blame you for not signing.

My biggest problem is that I don't think of people of other races as being any different than you or I, and that gets me into trouble some times, because I forget to pussyfoot when I should.

I agree that wanting secure borders is not a race issue, and not wanting rampant crime shouldn't be a race issue either. If you can tell at a glance that a person is a male or a female, or that a man is a black man, or Chinese, or Hispanic, why do we always agonize over how to describe them with-out mentioning those facts?

If someone was to ask “who is the old, short, fat, bald guy that drives the refrigeration truck“, I would have to agree that they would probably be describing me. But, instead of that, we have been taught to be so politically correct that somebody might end up sending someone to my competition, who is not quite as old, not quite as short, and not quite as fat, and not quite as bald as me. So, my competition would end up getting my business, because someone was afraid to describe me correctly. So the sword can cut both ways. Sometimes the truth hurts but you get your fair due. When someone tries to be too nice, you sometimes don’t get a fair shake!
